Joining our lab
Researchers in the LNSC study a range of problems in learning, development, and evolution using tools from mathematics, computer modeling, and psychological research. We construct formal models by covering existing psychological regularities and use these models to generate new predictions for empirical research. These feedback loops between theory and data ensure rapid progress. We are an inter-disciplinary group and interact with other labs in psychology, neuroscience, biology, computer science, and robotics within McGill and internationally. The emergence of complex phenomena from the interaction of elementary components is a common theme in our research. Lab members are typically skilled in more than one discipline and comfortable working across discipline boundaries. They are devoted to their research, committed to lab activities, and nourished by collaborative interactions.
Students lacking a background in computer programming or computer simulations may be interested in taking my course PSYC 315 Computational Psychology or courses in the School of Computer Science.
If you are interested in joining the LNSC, send me an introduction on the form of the Contact page of this website. In that message, describe your research interests and experience, your academic background, and provide a list of referees (if you have some) and their e-mail addresses. Attach a copy of your academic transcript and CV to the message form. Applications are welcome for post-doctoral, doctoral, and undergraduate research positions. For the doctoral and post-doctoral levels, having your own funding is an asset. Undergraduates may be interested in doing research with us for course credit.
Please understand that I cannot respond to every student who inquires or applies. You should interpret a non-response as a negative decision. Our lab is almost always running near full capacity.
